Micro-needling - Balwyn
Micro-needling (also known as skin needling and collagen induction therapy) is a skin rejuvenation treatment that helps support the skin's regeneration of collagen and elastin through the body’s natural healing process. It is effective because the needling stimulates a natural reaction in your skin to produce more of its own collagen.
This is a non-invasive procedure where microscopic needles penetrate the skin and leave microscopic punctures in the epidermis and dermis. This process releases a signal within the brain to send essential minerals, proteins, new collagen and elastin fibres to treat the needled area resulting in the skin being visibly revitalised, rejuvenated, replenished and regenerated.
Wrinkles, fine lines, acne scars and stretch markscan all be treated with skin needing.
Micro-needling can also be used to stimulate hair growth by triggering the scalp’s healing response to increase blood flow and break-up excess sebum. It may be used in conjunction with topical scalp treatment products commonly used to re-grow hair and treat hair loss.

The skin is thoroughly cleaned with a mild cleanser before a topical anaesthetic is applied to the area to be treated. After the anaesthetic has had time to take effect, the micro-needling pen is passed over the required area a few times while pushing a DNA repairing peptide serum into the skin. The area is then wiped clean and a recovery balm is applied to the skin to promote healing and the rapid turnover of new cells.
It is unlikely that you will experience any side effects apart from a little redness, which may last 4-6 hours. Make sure to keep the skin moist with recovery balm, and stay out of the sun or apply sun screen.
Whilst the channels to the dermis are open, it is advisable to use a serum that is able to repair damaged cells, stimulate healthy stem cells, collagen production and increase hydration to combat the signs of ageing. When micro-needling is combined with skin care products, it all works together to create greater results.

Skin needling is less invasive and expensive than other treatments in this area and offers proven results. For the best results, skin needling requires 3 sessions within 3 months. Although mainly used on the face, it is also effective on the body.
How long will it take?
In general, most procedures take 1.5 to 2 hours, with the topical anaesthetic taking 15–30 mins to take effect.
Will it hurt?
There is little to no discomfort felt during a procedure and anaesthetic is used to numb the area before we start.
How long will it take to heal?
It is unlikely that you will have any side effects apart from a little redness, which may last 4–6 hours.
What is the difference between micro-needling and dermal rolling?
Micro-needling is a more effective way of stimulating skin regeneration. The needling pen can penetrate into the epidermis and the dermis layer of the skin, making it more effective than home rolling systems. It is also a lot safer than home kits, as a new sterile needle is used for each session to eliminate the risk of infection from bacteria.
How long do micro-needling results last?
Immediately following treatment, the skin 'glows', with visible changes developing over the course of the next few days and weeks. Because micro-needling stimulates the growth of collagen, you will continue to see improvements up to 6 months after treatment as the collagen production continues. Collagen gives skin its elasticity and firmness, so anything you do to increase its production is well worth the effort.
Which areas can be treated with micro-needling?
Although most commonly used on the face for fine lines and wrinkles, micro-needling is not limited to that area. Any surface with acne or other scars, stretch marks, uneven pigmentation or cellulite will benefit from micro-needling. The scalp can also be micro-needled to stimulate hair growth.
How much does micro-needling cost?
A micro-needling treatment on the whole face costs $300. The principle behind micro-needling is the same as the fraxel laser treatment, but at a fraction of the cost. That makes micro-needling a very effective and affordable way to achieve results.
Is it true that micro-needling can help hair growth?
Micro-needling can definitely help with hair growth. Not only can it be used alone, it is often used as a pre-treatment for hair growth stimulation. The needles penetrate the top layers of the scalp, allowing higher penetration of topical scalp treatment products used to treat hair loss and re-grow hair.
